UPDATE: Protests in Genova and Milano against the decision of playing without supporters.

Today’s Serie A match between Genoa and Milan will be played behind closed doors to prevent crowd violence.
The Genoa prefect, Francesco Musolino, opted for this measure last night after a meeting with local authorities following threats of potential violence from both sets of supporters.
Less than 400 Milan followers were expected to travel to the Ligurian capital for the first time since Genoa fan Vincenzo Spagnolo was stabbed to death outside the Marassi stadium in 1995 after the CASMS, the committee that presides over the organisation of sporting events in Italy, had sensationally lifted a long-standing ban.
But the Genoa prefect’s decree has now ordered the match to be played behind closed doors in accordance with Italian laws on public security.
