Fans of Chester City have been given the lease to the club’s stadium by their local council, prompting hopes of a revival.
Cheshire West and Chester Council has offered Chester Fans United (CFU) a five-year lease to the Deva Stadium.
The authority rejected a proposal from a Danish consortium.
Chester City was wound up in the High Court in March, after being expelled from the Conference in February for failing to play games due to debts.
They plan to start life again as Chester Football Club in August, playing in a lower league.
CFU, which had pledged to maintain league football in the city, said they were “delighted” with the decision. (more…)

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — The trial of 14 hooligans charged with fatally beating a French football fan before a Europa League match last September started Wednesday with one defendant expressing sympathy over the death.
Ljubomir Markovic, 29, said he was sorry about the loss of life but pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder at Belgrade’s High Court.

Hertha fans riot at Olympic Stadium (photo&video)
Monday, March 15th, 2010Hertha Berlin, last years fourth place in 1.Bundesliga, struggled to mentain the few chances to avoid relegation on saturday, against FC.Nuremberg. After losing the game, the 12th one without a victory on own ground this season, the fans couldn’t handle the anger and humiliation and started a riot. 100 of them broke the fences and went on a rampage on the field, thrashing everything in sight and looking for the players or any members of the staff. The Police intervened later on and some fans were retained, but many of them returned to the stands. “It’s very serious what happens in German stadiums, and we must ensure football does not degenerate. I don’t understand why these idiots ran onto the pitch,”, Nuremberg coach Dieter Hecking told to the press. The coach of Hertha Berlin, Friedhelm Funkel, said “This behaviour has no place in the Olympic stadium”. The official site of Hertha Berlin doesn’t even mention the incident but an impressive number of Police forces were detached to their training camp in order to protect the players from the rage of the fans.

A Pictured Story of the Italian Ultras Phenomenon
Monday, March 8th, 2010At the end of the 70’s, when the concept of “ultras” began to spread, the image of supporters radically changed. New resources and ways of encouraging the team – less known in that period – emerged on the stadiums.
In contrast to the other spectators, the first groups of the Italian ultras used to stand up at the games they attended and permanently sustained their team during 90 minutes by strong shoutings, rhythmical hand claps and also by using the drums.

Five detained after Bilbao-Anderlecht fans clash
Friday, February 19th, 2010
Fans clashed on the pitch after the game, which ended 1-1, and incidents before the match saw a reported five fans - four Belgians and a Spaniard - arrested.
Anderlecht coach Ariel Jacobs played down the pitch invasion, attributing it to the “euphoria” following the result which gives the Belgian outfit the edge in their last-32 tie.
“I want to thank the Anderlecht fans who have covered so many kilometres to give their support to the team,” he said. “I think the invasion was due to a state of euphoria and it is regrettable.”

UEFA have yet to react but they are expected to come down hard after fining Austria Vienna 20,000 euros and ordering them to play two games behind closed doors - one suspended - following incidents in their match against Athletic in December.
