They even had a banner, as you can see in the video, which ironically stated “oh noooo”. This behavoiur generated criticsm by press, but as Curva Nord said in a press statement “those living outside Rome cannot understand and will never understand”. Inter is two point ahead with two fixtures remaining, and a wrong step against Lazio would almost made Roma champions.

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

APOLLON and AEL fans were involved in disturbances both inside and outside the Tsirion stadium in Limassol yesterday, following a cup semi-final match won 1-0 by Apollon.

The trouble started after the final whistle, when Apollon fans broke through crowd barriers to continue their celebrations on the pitch. They are reported to have gathered in front of a stand with AEL fans, and insults and threats were followed by firecrackers and flares.

Riot police were on hand to prevent any violent clashes and succeeded in keeping the departing fans apart after they left the stadium and continued to exchange insults.

After the Apollon fans moved off, AEL supporters are said to have started throwing objects – including water-bottles and stones – at the riot police.

For the first time, police immediately responded to the attack by firing at least four tear-gas canisters at the crowd of fans. These gradually moved away, but not before setting fire to bushes and taking objects and bricks from nearby houses’ gardens to throw at the police.
