May 29, 1985 will forever remain in the memories of football fans affiliated with Liverpool and Juventus. Bayern Munich and Internazionale Milano fans really honored the prestige of Europe’s most important football competition. Two superb choreographies accompanied the teams as they walked to the pitch for the kick-off. Inter with a gigantic display of an overhead banner with the team’s logo, surrounded by the Champions League stars and the Italy’s flag and Bayern with a gigantic Cup made out of cardboards on the three levels of Santiago Bernabeu along with the initials of the club “FCB” all that on a red-white striped background.
Tens of thousands of Inter’s fans fooded the streets of Milan after the final whistle to celebrate the teams victory and almost 40.000 fans awaited the team at the airport. For more photos from the game and celebrations see the rest of the article. (more…)
Last game of the season at home for Paris Saint Germain offered the fans the chance to say “adieu” to the freshly dissolved groups in the Auteuil and Boulogne as well as to the players who disappointed again this season and especially to the board.
Tuesday, a group of approximately 100 Atalanta supporters took control of Zingonia Sports Center. They protested against bad management of their team, asked the Board to resign, light some torches and some firecrackers and then disappeared in the smoke. Few minutes later, police showed up but they couldn’t find any intruders in the area so nobody was arrested.
A new interesting episode of the italian rivalry between Lazio and Roma happened last weekend. After warning that if their own team leads the game by the 80th minute, they will invade the pitch and stop the game to provoke a 0-3 loss, Lazio fans celebrated every goal Inter scored. They even had a banner, as you can see in the video, which ironically stated “oh noooo”. This behavoiur generated criticsm by press, but as Curva Nord said in a press statement “those living outside Rome cannot understand and will never understand”. Inter is two point ahead with two fixtures remaining, and a wrong step against Lazio would almost made Roma champions.
A goalless draw between Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split on the pitch, but very exciting in the stands. Police intervened at half-time, in order to stop throwing of flares and bombs. The clashes during break-time and after the game resulted in the injury of 15 policemen (one with a severe eye-injury) and 6 supporters (one shot in the chest). 91 were detained, Police reported that 66 of them are supporters of Dinamo Zagreb.
APOLLON and AEL fans were involved in disturbances both inside and outside the Tsirion stadium in Limassol yesterday, following a cup semi-final match won 1-0 by Apollon.
The trouble started after the final whistle, when Apollon fans broke through crowd barriers to continue their celebrations on the pitch. They are reported to have gathered in front of a stand with AEL fans, and insults and threats were followed by firecrackers and flares.
Riot police were on hand to prevent any violent clashes and succeeded in keeping the departing fans apart after they left the stadium and continued to exchange insults.
After the Apollon fans moved off, AEL supporters are said to have started throwing objects – including water-bottles and stones – at the riot police.
For the first time, police immediately responded to the attack by firing at least four tear-gas canisters at the crowd of fans. These gradually moved away, but not before setting fire to bushes and taking objects and bricks from nearby houses’ gardens to throw at the police.
The French government has taken the unusual step of dissolving seven official soccer supporters’ associations accused of being linked to violence.
Interior minister Brice Hortefeux’s decision comes amid widespread concern over hooliganism and some two months after a Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) supporter died following a brutal beating by members of a rival PSG fans’ group. Of the seven banned associations – often known as “firms” – five belong to PSG fans and two are linked to the clubs Olympique Lyonnais and OGC Nice. (more…)
